Peng Li joined the North Carolina Symphony as its Assistant Principal Cellist in the fall of 2008. He was a member of the San Antonio Symphony, as well as a sub for the Houston Symphony, Opera and Ballet Orchestras. Mr. Li attended the Tanglewood Music Center in the summers of  2005 and 2006 and was principal cellist for the 2006 premiere of Elliot Carter's opera What Next?, conducted by James Levine. Mr. Li also has performed with the National Repertory Orchestra and Spoleto USA.

A native of Houston, TX,  Mr. Li received a Masters of Music degree from Rice University's Shepherd School of Music under the tutelage of Norman Fischer and Brinton Smith. Prior to attending Rice, Mr. Li graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA with a Bachelors of Music. His principal teachers were Peter Stumpf and Michael Reynolds. As a chamber musician, Mr. Li has also been coached by members of the Cleveland, Muir, Concord and Borromeo String Quartets.

Born and raised in West Hartford, CT, cellist Nathaniel Yaffe joined the NC Symphony in the fall of 2013.  Nathaniel earned a double Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance and Audio Recording from the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2009, and a Master of Music degree in Cello Performance from CIM in 2010. Dedicated to teaching as well as performing, Nathaniel is a Doctor of Musical Arts Candidate in Cello Performance at the University of Minnesota.  While at the U of M, Nathaniel developed and taught a series of seminars on recording techniques for the performing musician.

Nathaniel has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony, and the New World Symphony. A two-time Orchestral String Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and School, Nathaniel was a member of the Aspen Chamber Symphony and the Aspen Festival Orchestra. While pursuing his Bachelor of Music degree, Nathaniel was a production intern at Telarc International where he worked closely with GRAMMY award winning producers and engineers.

Among Nathaniel’s accomplishments as a producer and engineer is the debut album of 2008 Naumburg International Violoncello Competition First Prize Winner David Requiro, which was released through Nathaniel Yaffe Productions to critical acclaim.

The musical path of cellist Marc Moskovitz has taken him from NC to Indiana, Germany, Virginia, Ohio, Boston and finally back to NC. He has held positions at The University of Virginia and The University of Toledo, where he served as associate professor of cello and cellist of the Toledo Trio. Principal cellist of ProMusica Chamber Orchestra (Columbus, OH) since 2001, Marc has also performed with The Boston Pops, The Handel and Haydn Society and appears often with the North Carolina Symphony.  In 2006 he gave the North American premiere of Zemlinsky’s rediscovered Cello Sonata at the Library of Congress, which the Washington Post called “an impassioned performance.”  His recordings include the music of cello virtuosi David Popper, Franz Reizenstein and Eric Zeisl among others and his recording of works by Alfredo Piatti led to his performing as a guest of the International Piatti Festival in Bergamo, Italy.  Moskovitz, whose teachers included Janos Starker and Gary Hoffman, holds a doctorate and master’s degree from Indiana University and spent one year in Berlin with cellist Wolfgang Boettcher as a Fulbright scholar.

Moskovitz has written on a variety of musical subjects and contributed to various music journals.  His entries on historical cellists are found in The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, he has written program notes for orchestras and opera houses in Germany, Spain and China as well as the U.S. and his liner notes can be found on the Melba and Naxos record labels.  Moskovitz is author of Alexander Zemlinsky: A Lyric Symphony and co-author of Beethoven's Cello, both published by Boydell & Brewer.

Cellist David Meyer joins the North Carolina Symphony after performing for a year as a member of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra.  He has performed solo, symphonic, and chamber music in North America, Europe, and Asia as part of festivals of Verbier, Schleswig-Holstein, Britten- Pears, Moritzburg, Viana do Castelo, Carteret, and Colorado College. He served as principal cellist of the Verbier Festival Orchestra, New World Symphony, Britten-Pears Orchestra, Atlantic Music Festival Orchestra, NEC Philharmonia, NEC's conductorless Chamber Orchestra, American Youth Symphony, Thornton Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra, and Claremont Young Musician's Orchestra. As concerto soloist he has performed with the Colorado College Summer Festival Orchestra, National Repertory Orchestra, and Claremont Young Musician’s Orchestra.  David gave the European Premier performance of the Sonata for Solo Violoncello by Los Angeles based composer NL Qosqadi in 2007, as well as several Boston premiers (BNMI) in 2008-2012.  A zealous chamber musician, he was the cellist of the string quartet Tetrachord, performing in New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall in a 2009 Honors recital, and was a founding member of the Discovery Ensemble of Boston.
